Title : The Minimal Model Program in Complex Geometry

Abstract: The Minimal Model Program is an important branch of complex and algebraic geometry that has seen major advances over the last year. Though its importance has never been in question, the subject has acquired a reputation as being extremely technical and impenetrable to the outsider. This colloquium-style talk explains the goals of the theory in a non-technical manner. It highlights the main advances and introduces some of the research problems currently discussed in the community.
