BIODIMAR Technical Core Facility can harvest and sample various biomass (mostly marine plants and halophyts), relying on knowledge on taxonomy and plant determination held by reknowned phycologists of the LEMAR UMR6539 laboratory.
Following field sampling/harvesting, biomass is quickly washed with water and freezed at -20°C. They are then submitted to a freeze-drying step with the help of a lyophilizator CHRIST, Alpha 1-4.
Freeze-drying capacity is above 4kg of frozen plants in 72 hours.
Grinding of the lyophilized biomass is performed using a planetary grinder with stainless bowls, PM400, from RESTCH.
The final granulometry is dependent of the biomass but is lower than 30 micrometers.
After extract production, solvents can be evaporated using two rotative evaporators, allowing quick evaporation of volumes inferior to 1L.
A centrifuge evaporator/concentrator under vaccum (EZ2, GENEVAC) allows the quick concentration of up to 40tubes in a single run, at low temperature.
